So you want to build a craps table – pt 9
It is finished. At least, as finished as it is going to be since it still needs chip rails made and attached.
Where did I leave off. In our last episode, we left our hero with a craps table with no trim, no inside finishing done, things not painted and only one rail padded. A dire predicament indeed.
I made the second padded rail and painted all the exposed wood (see part 8 on the making of the rail). Then moved it down to the K2 lounge (basement) to put it into use.
It sat like that as I worked on various other projects until I found out I was going to be filmed for a new HGTV show called “Man Land”. That lit the fire under my butt to get this thing finished.
So here’s what I did:
Added some side trim pieces to cover the staples in the upholstered outside of the tub. Just some simple pine trim half round, painted gloss black, and attached with finishing nails.
After my previous experiences, I gave up on the idea of having a curved mirror and just cut a cheap ($2.50 on sale) full length mirror to fit. Glued it in place, done and done. I surrounded the mirror with the self stick vinyl tile I used on the other side of the inside of the tub. Looks pretty slick. In these photos, the flash really reflects off the white edges of the tile, but in person, you can hardly see the edges after i went over them with a black Sharpie.
The biggest dilemma was how to trim the curved top of the sides of the tub. I debated using everything from rubber door seal to vacuum cleaner hose, but nothing seemed to work. Either it didn’t fit right or it didn’t look right. Ended up slapping on some more of that self stick vinyl tile and it actually turned out pretty good. Gives it a good finish and shows off the curve nicely.
All in all, it was a fun project. Took way too long, but that’s how it goes. I’m happy with the result, even without the chip rail. Plus it’s been a lot of fun to play on.
Now if I could just find the perfect betting system…
Hey there,
Really like the craps table and I am unable to locate the plans you purchased on Recroomplans.com, or on Ebay….Can you shed some light on this?
Thanks again!
Ryan
i think recroomplans.com has gone out of business. i contacted them and got no response.
sorry.
Fantastic looking table. I’m in the process of building one myself, though from a different approach, building a top to my pool table that will break down for storage.
At any rate, can you elaborate on where you got your pyramid rubber and how much you paid? Is it me, or do companies charge a wad for even small lengths…upwards of 60 bux for 4 feet. I need 14 and don’t feel like shelling out $200 for it.
i got it from discount casino gear: product link for $43.18 per 4 foot length.
but it looks like they don’t carry that product anymore.
that was the best deal i could find at the time.
sorry i can’t be more help for you.
good luck on your table!
The table looks great. I’m thinking about building a table myself, but I would like to do some budgeting before I get too into it. If you don’t mind me asking, What was you total cost in materials???
how to get plans blue prints to build crap table like u built on this site
thanks
don
WOW what a sloppy job, the felt is on crooked, you don’t do a drop in playing surface plus there are big gaps on it, you build it so the side walls come off for felt replacement you put the felt on and stretch for a perfect fit.
you didn’t even take the time to clean the rubber Diamond bumper.
The padding on the side makes it look cheap and no chip trays, very poor craftsmanship.
Nice try though, better luck next time.
@HUMMM:
thanks for the constructive criticism, i’ll just clarify a few of your comments –
— the playing surface IS drop in, there’s holes underneath that i can push through to push the playing surface up and out if i have to replace the felt
— i did clean the diamond rubber bumper, but apparently, the flash caught the streaks. maybe you can suggest a good product to use for cleaning diamond rubber bumper that doesn’t leave streaks
— i like the padding on the side
— i would have liked to have chip trays, but it just didn’t happen
— sorry you hate it, i promise never to build you one
Dude.
Sounds like someone has a huge case of CRAPS TABLE ENVY.
Nice job making yourself look like an A-hole, HUMMM.
Really, Class act.
Kadee,
Sorry bro my 12′ craps table that i am currently building will make that thing look like it was bought from K-MART.
If i am an ASS-Hole for stating the odivous then so be it.
It’s people like you that can’t handel the truth.
CHADD i wouldn’t take anything from you even if it was free, you can tell by the looks of your basement you have very little CRAFTSMANSHIP, OR better put; lack of detail and poore design. i will keep in touch and show you what a real table looks like.
I can see a little of HUMMM’s point, but I think it is very nice. I love the padding.
I myself have chip rails on mine, double in fact, and it is regulation size. 12 foot x 4 foot.
And the REAL layout is made of wool, not felt. I do not get those green fuzzies, plus the layout is deep dies, meaning, then when, and if, it wears down, the lines do not disappear, or course I spent more than $110…
Also, I have 4 of them and they were designed for my Casino Entertainment Company, which is no longer going, but I kept the tables. They are designed for transport. 6 x 4 each side set up on metal folding legs. Put a black piece of cloth attached to the edge with ‘t’ moulding and you get a sweet looking table.
Course yours has the nice base and is like a piece of furniture, but no one really sees it, and I can take mine to parties, which I still do.
good job..
maynard
@HUMMM:
so very angry, aren’t we.
@Maynard
Yeah, i would have liked to do the chip rails, but i still haven’t had the opportunity. hopefully i’ll get to that eventually.
They layout i have is wool, got it from Kardwell, I think it was about $115 or so when I got it. I don’t expect it will ever wear out from the occasional use it gets in my basement during parties.
Hummm… what a fool.
Chadd – nice job man. Looks great to me.
hi just wanted to say nice job that guy is a looser makeing fun of your hard work it looks great is there any way you can send me the plans on building my own or will this be on the web so i can refer to it thank you and how much does one cost to build
Chadd Nice job, I just got done building mine it came out really nice i give credit to anyone that builds one it was not to bad it took me 14 days but i did have 5 people help me build it got done saturday and had a party sunday, i have pics for any one that would like to see it also for any one that has questions that i might be able to help answer.
Chadd i like you party area very nice.
Maynard,
Do you have any sort of plans for your table? I want to build one myself but would prefer an easily transportable table like the one you described.
@ Duke,
I’d be interested in seeing your design and how it came out. I’m interested in building one myself. How much did it end up costing you?
James
It initally cost more then i planned for the reason i need to buy some more tools. hehe
I could build one now for right at a $1,000.00 that is including Diamond rubber bumper and Sythetic Digital layout which i really like. I keep all the wood templates i have so i could build more tables if needed.
I am working on getting my webaddress setup so i would have to email the Pictures for give me an email address or someplace to upload the pic and i will do it.
so here is where you can look at my table if you click on a picture in the photo gallery give it a second to load even though it says done and there is no picture it will load, i set this up through my ISP and it is slow, my email is at the bottom of the home page if you need anything.
http://myweb.cableone.net/abqjduke/default.htm
@Duke
the link works but i can’t click on the photo gallery…
Try again i think i was doing some work on it at the time it does work now.
Hay i just got my roulette wheel from a guy here in town sweet wheel so i am going to start building my roulette wheel.
Now all i need is the room like chadd to put it all in, hehe
opps sorry, made a typo in my last post.
start building my roulette table.
@duke:
still can’t click on anything on your page…
congrats on the roulette wheel! have fun!
i’d like to build a drop in roulette wheel playing surface to set on my craps table. some day, some day…
and don’t stress to hard about the room, mine is just an unfinished basement with some paint
Atleast you have the basement mine is in a single car garage, hehe but it works for now.
I want to build onto the back of my house and put in a gaming room with a wetbar, like you said Some day.
I was thinking the same thing about a craps table that converts to roulette and then flip the roulette table over and you have a texas holdem table all in one.
I wounder if any one else can get to my photogallery off my web page, i will have some friends check it.
Humm is a dick.
@Chadd – nice job. Good inspiration for me as I start building one.
@DUKE – I was able to get on your page & photo gallary with no problems.
@DUKE – i can get to your page, but it’s just a page of text, no images… and the links on your page to the photo gallery don’t seem to be working….
@DUKE – i just got to your photo gallery page (you have to use IE, your links don’t work with firefox or chrome) and that table is awesome! nice job! especially love the chip rail.
I was wondering if you put anything under the felt??
Table looks great!
i’m just starting on a full size craps table i found on crapsfest.com. seems to be the best i can find. have the base built. found one measurement error so far. on the sub base table top 52 1/2 x 48 , were it says 1′ 8″ it should be 24″ thats the only mistake i can find. i’m not going to use there leg plans.
Yes….hmmm is dmmm. Anyone that starts and finishes any project, learns something that will carry over to the next one. Hmmm. Some humanoids seek to feel more by trying to make others feel less.
so did anyone get plans to share. i know that you all have been looking as i have with no luck. anyone care to share what plans they got…
I think it looks good. Where can I get the plans for the table?
@hummm.. Doubt this guy will ever see this comment since i seen this is back in 2008, but i hope someday he returns to this website, and sees what I have to say.
Hummm people like you make me sick. You have to belittle others to make yourself look good. Instead of a comment of saying, hey man you did a pretty decent job, instead you had to brag about supposed superior crafting skills. Well good for you, golf clap. I would buy his table over top of yours any day. I would never want to associate with a person like you. Get a life, wake up and come down from your high horse before you fall off of it.
Nice looking table!
ok Chad, i am currently building a table and i may sell it. it is not nearly as nice as yours and i want to know how much approximatley you spent on just the frame itself. and i think that yours looks great! it is all pretty precise..VERY well done.
it is basically made from 3 sheets of 3/4″ ply. so whatever you can get that for, is your cost. you can build a base out of a few 2×4’s like i did or put it on a premade table or bench.
