I don't have a QoS router but I'll have to pick one up. My crappy Road Runner service gives me 60kbps upload and 900+kbps download speeds. If I am torrenting and uploading at 40kbps no one can understand me because my outbound bandwidth is ate up. If I reduce my torrent uploads to 25kbps people on the other end can hear me fine.
So Magic Jack needs at least 35kbps of outbound bandwidth to work properly... If FiOS network would spread faster this would be a non issue.

When I start up my magic jack I can receive calls for about 2 minutes and then when someone calls my magic jack it goes into my voicemail without ringing. I unhooked my D-link, DIR 625 router and hooked my modem up to my desktop that my magic jack is hooked up to and it works fine. I have been online with magicjack about 10 X and with D-link about 5 X and I still can't get it to work properly. Please help me and be very specific with instructions as I am very new at this.

I gave Magic Jack a test drive for the last couple of months and have found just as chadd has said, it runs great if you get it tweaked just right. Right now, I'm setting up a WinXP box for Magic Jack and I'm going to have it replace my Comcast phone service starting next month.

Can someone with a magicjack tell answer the following two questions.

1) When you are not using the magicjack how much band widith will it use per day (just by being on waiting for a call)? This is important to me because I am going to a country with very high per Mb cost.

2) How much bandwidth does the magicjack use per minute or per 10 minutes in use (on a call)?

Thanks,

Andy
