Man Land airs the K2 Lounge on HGTV!

Over 2 years after the original filming, it finally got aired! HGTV’s Man Land finally broadcast the series premiere and amazing enough they chose the episode with the K2 Lounge.

It was a bit strange seeing myself on the Tee Vee. And it was like looking back in time. Especially, considering all the work that i’ve done since the filming. Strange not seeing the beer tap or the jukebox or the new poker table.

Knowing that the camera crew was there for about 10 hours and had about 8 hours of film, it is interesting to see what “made the cut” to go on the show. I would have put in the dogs playing poker with George Gray, but oh well, i’m not the editor.

One editing blooper: they used the photos of the bar construction when talking about how I built the craps table, but oh well, it was a quick shot.

Overall, a very fun experience, but next time, I’m going on a show that gives me a prize or remodels a room or something :)

Many thanks to Matt Apps for DVR’ing, ripping, editing and uploading the video!

Jukebox background installed

Phil from Chicago Sign Systems came into town and installed the winning design.
He printed it out backwards on vinyl and applied it to the back of the frosted plexi.
the K2 and lounge are both black vinyl and the card suits are some kind of fancy semi transparent vinyl. I didn’t even know such a thing existed.  What an age we live in.

It looks fabulous, i’d say.
I still have to figure out some other sort of backlighting, but for now, I’m more than happy.

[ note: i'm not really the best photographer, so the orange backlight kind of glares in the photos. In person, they look like the bottom where you can see the card suits better ]

[ note 2: the walls are still orange, not pink ]

Again, thanks to Phil and his super awesome art talents.

Pick my Jukebox Background

So my friend Phil at Chicago Sign Systems designed me up some backgrounds for my jukebox, and I’m having a hard time choosing.

the design would fill the frosted plexiglass that the touchscreen monitor is mounted into in my home jukebox, as you can see in these photos: (no the walls are not pink, they are orange. the flash makes them look all pinkish)

so… which one would you pick?

design #5 just added by request, so if you want to cast another vote, just clear your cookies and you should be able to vote again

which jukebox background do you like best?

k2 lounge Basement Casino Build : Before & After

So i finally got it (mostly) done. (Is a project like this ever really “done”?)

The basement casino is open for business.

Breif history:

When we moved into the house, there was nothing down there. Just a big open box with the concrete foundation walls on all sides. Staircase coming down in the middle, furnace & water heater on one side, laundry washer & dryer on the other.

This last spring, I, with the help of my dear ol’ pop, put up drywall walls to create some rooms. Walled off a furnace room, and also a laundry room.

These photos were taken Sept 25, 2006.

I posted those, so you can see what has happened in a very short time span, considering it’s only been one mere mortal working on it.

So, without any further ado, chadd’s new basement casino:

There’s still a lot to do. Need more art on the walls, need to add kegerator behind the bar [update: wall beer tap added], add a sink behind the bar, add a couple bookshelves, trim out the drywall, start/finish the downstairs bathroom in the laundry room. Should keep me occupied for a while.

In the meantime, it’s done enough to be usable, my own little piece of Vegas in my basement. And, after the first party we had down there last week, I think it will work out well. But, i think i might have to initiate taking a rake from the poker table, or else i’m going to have to send back that volcano for the front yard and the flamingos for the back.
